Save a Yorkie
Plenty of items were for sale at the Upper St. Clair Community Flea Market, but one booth featured information about adopting cute little dogs.
Some visitors to Saturday's Upper St. Clair Community Flea Market were blissfully unaware of the steady drizzle throughout a good part of the event.
They were a quartet of Yorkshire terriers, and for the most part they rested comfortably while people who saw them stopped and said, "Oh, how cute!" and perhaps took some pictures.
The small, long-haired dogs were featured at the Save a Yorkie Rescue booth, with Pittsburgh area representative Vera Tuggle and other volunteers on hand to "place trusted paws into trusted hands."
Save a Yorkie Rescue was founded by Marilyn Faughner, an Eastern Pennsylvania resident and Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate, as a way to provide homes for the terriers, particularly ones whose owners have died.
So far, according to the organization's website, some 1,500 Yorkies have been rescued.
