Upper St. Clair is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Upper St. Clair has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • In 2023, an eighth grader from Upper St. Clair made history as a Guinness World Record holder. Kavin Senthil Kumar, a student at Fort Couch Middle School, joined over 1,300 participants in the largest simultaneous Hindu text recital after undergoing 10 months of rigorous training and assessment.
  • Upper St. Clair Township was founded in 1788 and named after General Arthur St. Clair, a Scottish immigrant who came over in 1755. Rising in rank to become the only Pennsylvanian Major General in the Continental Army, St. Clair served as president of the Continental Congress in 1787.
  • Many notable athletes have called Upper St. Clair home, including Sean Casey, the former MLB first baseman turned baseball analyst for MLB Network. He moved here as a child and graduated from Upper St. Clair High School, adding a touch of sports stardom to our vibrant community!
  • Upper St. Clair was the site of the Whiskey Rebellion. Nearly 500 defiant farmers converged at Couch's Fort on July 15, 1794, marching down Fort Couch Road to Neville Farm to protest Federal whiskey taxes, marking one of the earliest challenges to the authority of the newly formed Federal government by George Washington's troops.
  • Hidden within Upper St. Clair is the charming Gilfillan Farm, which stands as the last operational farm in the community. Registered as a National Historic Place, the farm offers visitors a chance to step back in time through interactive exhibits and events.
