Your Next Treasure? Find Out at Flea Market

Old record albums probably were a sellers’ staple of the first Upper St. Clair Community Flea Market, back in 1991.

At the time, music enthusiasts were busy replacing their LPs with CDs. But that particular pendulum has swung back around: Collectors want records, and compact discs are well on their way to becoming obsolete.

Then again, you’ll have to take a look for yourself at what’s for sale at the 2012 version of the flea market, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14.

Somewhere around 75 vendors – your friends, neighbors or someone you haven’t met yet – will have their wares on display.

“You may find your next wonderful treasure or sought-after item you’ve been looking for,” says Amy Kerman, who works with community programs for the Upper St. Clair Department of Recreation and Leisure Services.

The flea market takes over the upper parking lot at Upper St. Clair High School. Everyone is invited to browse, partake of the concessions being offered or just plain visit with one another.

“We get lots of foot traffic. You come and you see your neighbors, people you served in the PTA with,” Kerman says.

The event is held rain or shine, with one exception way back when because of a tornado watch. For the record, Saturday’s forecast is mostly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms, with a high in the mid-80s.

That’s warm, but it shouldn’t melt those LPs you might be seeking!
