PHILADELPHIA, PA — Local law enforcement agencies are warning drivers about an EZ Pass ticket scam alert making its way throughout the Philadelphia region.

Numerous police departments and law enforcement agencies throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties are warning drivers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey about a text message scam targeting drivers in the area.

The scam messages claim to be from a government agency, stating that the driver has an outstanding traffic ticket and threatening to suspend driving privileges if payment is not made promptly.
"These messages may contain phrases such as 'Final Notice' or 'Final Reminder' and threaten additional penalties, including prosecution," law enforcement agencies.

The text message states: "Do not respond to these messages or click on any links provided. Authorities have confirmed that these messages are scams, and you should not provide any personal information," police said.
PennDOT and the New Jersey MVC do not send unsolicited texts about a driver's status or other issues. "If you have concerns about a traffic ticket or your driving record, contact the relevant authorities directly," police suggest.
