Responding to Congressman Fitzpatrick Introducing Sweeping Reform

I read your interesting article, "Bucks County Congressman Sworn In, Introduces Sweeping Reform Package.” Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick is well-intentioned; some of his proposals are good, and some are not. However, he must know that it is not going anywhere if introduced as is.

Like many ill-informed American politicians, he uses the term “American democracy.” The sad part is that most of us agree with this due to the squelching and manipulation of American history. A democracy is a government that can convince the majority to support whatever agenda the leaders of that government have at any given time. However, we are supposed to be a republic form of government where our leaders are constrained under some parameters, namely the Constitution.

However, that monumental piece of work by our Founders has been bent, twisted, distorted, and disregarded by a group of decision-makers who monopolize political power and influence the fate of an uneducated society to the point that order has given way to chaos and their constitutional constraints no longer exist.

Our republican form of government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness because the citizens treat elections as a sporting event. We deny our sacred duty, and either side with the Republican or Democrat side with little or no knowledge of morals or the guiding principles the candidate stands for. Therefore, corrupted, incompetent, bad people are elected to make and administer the laws. We get what we vote for!
