WARMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA — Centennial School Board President Mary Alice Brancato has responded to the recent departures of five top administrators from the district.

The departures come as the school board transitions from former Schools Superintendent Dana T. Bedden to new Superintendent Abram Lucabaugh.

"During times of transition, it is not uncommon for employees to seek other positions," Brancato said in an email to Patch. "The process can take several months from the time of initial time of application to final board approval."

School Director Jane Lynch wondered who was conducting the interviews since the district currently does not have a human resources director. She also wondered when temporary employees would be appointed to fill the vacancies.

Lynch also complained about Willow Dale Elementary School opening the new school year with a temporary principal and vice principal.

The Centennial School District has posted openings for five top administrators:

  • Assistant Schools Superintendent
  • Director of Human Resources
  • Executive Director of Student Services
  • Assistant Director of Student Services
  • Supervisor of Special Education

Brancato defended the departures, stating that there are several factors that influence employees' decisions to seek other positions: Proximity to home, increased compensation, and career advancement to name a few.

Brancato said the school district has seen many qualified candidates apply for the vacancies:

  • Assistant Superintendent: 56 applicants
  • Director of Human Resources: 50 applicants
  • Executive Director of Student Services: 20 applicants
  • Assistant Director of Student Services: 35 applicants
  • Supervisor of Special Education: 17 applicants

"The district is currently in the process of interviewing for these roles to select quality candidates
who will continue to prioritize the needs of our students while providing supportive and innovative approaches that create incredible opportunities for our students and families," Brancato said.

Lucabaugh's appointment by the school board came in a controversial 5-4 vote based on his past with Central Bucks, in which he accepted a $700,000 severance agreement.

A citizens group criticized his selection, and numerous residents packed school board meetings to protest the hiring.

"Will a manager be hired to operate the transportation vacancy at the bus garage on opening day?" Lynch said. "CSD presently has challenges, but no matter what they are, our students will always come first in their education and safety."
