ShopRite Of Warminster Donates $10K to Warminster Food Bank

In Support Of Food Bank's Thanksgiving Food Drive

Warrington Township Lions Club and Cowhey Family ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster teamed up for a Gratitude in Action Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit Warminster Food Bank at Cowhey Family ShopRite, located at 942 W. Street Road in Warminster, Pa. 1,280 pounds of food and $400 in cash and ShopRite gift cards were collected. In addition, Cowhey Family ShopRite of Warminster management presented a $10,000 donation to Warminster Food Bank to help the organization purchase perishable items, meats, fruits, vegetables and other necessities for those in need.

Area residents were invited to participate and shoppers were provided with a list of items needed at the store’s entrances. This food drive is especially important since the holidays are challenging for families dealing with food insecurity. In addition to the usual expenses that need to be paid, there are expectations of a big holiday meal and gifts in December. That means many families are faced with having to make difficult choices between food and other necessities. Items collected at this event will help to bridge the gap for these families.

Members of the Warrington Township Lions Club and volunteers from Warminster Food Bank were on hand to work with ShopRite employees and customers to collect and sort donated items. Warminster Food Bank serves over 15,000 people a year in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

"I feel the simple act of feeding those in need can have a profound impact on someone's life, said Deborah Cowhey, Owner and Operator, Cowhey Family ShopRite. “Giving is a powerful reminder that we are all interconnected. Giving helps to break down barriers and fosters humanity and kindness...it's infectious!"

“For those experiencing food insecurity, this can be a season of worry. After paying the bills and other expenses, money left over for groceries may be limited,” said Mike Cerino, Executive Director, Warminster Food Bank. “We are most grateful for the generosity of the Cowhey family, the Lions Club and members of the community for the donations of food items, cash and gift cards. They will ease the burden for those in our community when they need it the most.”
