Future Of Lower Makefield Pool Under Discussion
A public hearing later this month will give residents a first look at what changes may happen at the popular pool on Edgewood Road.
LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Officials in Lower Makefield are pondering the future of the township's community pool and, later this month, residents will get a first look at what that future might be.
Last year, the township hired a contractor to review operations at the pool, at 1050 Edgewood Rd., and work up a plan for how it could cut costs and generate more money.
At a hearing on Feb. 27, Aquatic Facility Design will present an initial plan to the public. The hearing will be at 7 p.m., at the community center at 1550 Oxford Valley Rd.

"Allowing community involvement in this process will enable us to better use our resources and provide services that the community feels are worth investing in," said Monica Tierney, director of Parks and Recreation in Lower Makefield. "It is important for us to remain relevant, manage the pool effectively and continue proper maintenance in order to provide the best customer experience."
Over the past year, Aquatic Facility Design has been visiting the pool complex, conducting interviews and reviewing past plans in order to create a new plan.

After a presentation at the Feb. 27 hearing, there will be an open discussion and question-and-answer session. Feedback received at the hearing will be used to make additional changes to the plan before final presentations to the Parks and Recreation Board and Board of Supervisors, officials said.
"This is an investigative process about how to move into the future," Tierney said.
She said all residents, not just pool members, are invited to attend the hearing.
"We are continually reviewing and improving our processes," Tierney said. "We will continue to engage the community in future endeavors in order to improve social capital and quality of life in the Lower Makefield community."
