Morrisville Convenience Store Could Begin Selling Alcohol Soon

Falls Township supervisors voted in favor of a restaurant liquor license for Country Farms, located in the Shoppes at Makefield Village.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — Another store in Falls Township could be receiving a liquor license in the near future.

Falls Township Supervisors voted 3-1 for the inter-municipal liquor license transfer from Middletown Township to the Country Farm convenience store in the Shoppes at Makefield Village at their Monday meeting. Supervisor Erin Mullen cast the lone no vote, while Supervisor Jeff Boraski was absent from the vote.

Located at 91 Makefield Road, the convenience store has operated in the Bucks County area for 20 years. With the potential transfer of the liquor license, the store would be able to sell beer and wine, according to attorney Dave Berger.

If the restaurant liquor license is approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, the store could sell alcohol as a takeout retailer.

Along with pending approvals from the control board, another aspect of the liquor license includes the requirement for the licensee to allow onsite consumption of alcohol, much like other food stores and similar shops have done in the Bucks County area in the past few years.

Supervisor Mullen and a local resident expressed their concern over the store becoming a spot where customers can consume alcohol on-site, while Berger argued that consumption would be limited to one drink per customer. He said that alcohol sales ensure that the convenience store is not “going to lose out to the grocery store.”

“It’s kind of a survival-type thing,” Berger said.

A designated register for alcohol would be added to the store, and sales of alcohol would be limited to 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Alcohol coolers would be locked during times when alcohol sales are not permitted, according to Berger.
