Student Brings Hunting Knife Into William Penn Middle School

The student is facing criminal charges after he brought the knife in to show friends.

FALLSINGTON, PA — The Pennsbury School District has addressed an incident involving a student who brought a weapon into William Penn Middle School on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The student in question had brought a hunting-type knife into the school. On Wednesday, Dec. 8, when the school was made aware of his possession of the knife, he was questioned, and law enforcement was called to the school. The student did not have the knife in their possession the day after the incident.

"At no time was the knife used to threaten other students, but we understand that the student did show it to friends," said Thomas A. Smith, Superintendent of Schools, in a statement. "We appreciate that students shared this information with district staff."

Smith asks parents to discuss the incident with their children and to emphasize the severity of bringing a weapon to school.

"To be clear, bringing any type of weapon on school grounds is a violation of the law."

The student who brought the knife is subject to criminal charges related to bringing a weapon onto school property.

"Our district is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate timely and accurate information to families about safety issues when they arise."
