YARDLEY, PA —The borough is all for the birds.

We're not talking about the Philadelphia Eagles here. These are your basic birds that take flight in the borough and that will now be getting lots more love.

The borough has become the state's 76th Bird Town and is celebrating with the Yardley Community Bird Walk from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday with walkers meeting at Lake Afton by the Library

The birding and guided educational walk will focus on learning about and observing bird species commonly found in Yardley during March and early spring, organizers said.

In addition, conservation efforts will be discussed under the PA Bird Town initiative and ways residents can work with borough officials to protect and enjoy birds in the area.

The walk will go down Afton Avenue to the Delaware River near the Yardley Veteran’s Memorial to bird space preserved by Spearhead Project Earth and the Yardley EAC. Then, the walk will go to the Delaware Canal Towpath and travel north .5 miles to the Yardley Trail Head.

The walk ends at Lake Afton, where there will be a review of the list of birds and species seen on the walk.

Residents are encouraged to bring binoculars or cameras. Walkers should dress appropriately for being outside in the morning in cooler temperatures and wear hiking or walking footwear.

The event is rain or shine unless there is a downpour. Pets should be left at home for this walk, organizers said.
