Yardley Police Chief Leaves Hospital After Shooting Injuries
Chief Joseph Kelly III has been released after being shot in the hand and ear on Wednesday. Officials shared messages of support.
YARDLEY, PA — Joseph Kelly III, chief of the Yardley Borough Police Department, was released from the hospital Thursday after being shot multiple times on Wednesday. He and his family received an outpouring of support from the community.
Kelly was shot in the ear and neck on Wednesday morning when he arrived at a Yardley Commons apartment to assist a Bucks County parole officer with a wellbeing check. He was transported to St. Mary Medical Center; a suspect, 24-year-old Colin Frank Petroziello, is being held at Bucks County Correctional Facility after a standoff lasting more than four hours.
The police department shared news of Kelly's homecoming on Thursday evening, writing "Welcome back Chief!"

A receiving line of officials and care workers saw Kelly out of the hospital.
"The Kelly Family has asked the YBPD to convey their thanks to all the many people and departments who have expressed their wishes for Chief’s speedy recovery," the police department wrote online Thursday.

Mayor Chris Harding shared his well wishes, too.
"Chief Kelly, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during your recovery," he wrote.
