Yardley Roads Closed, No Injuries Reported After Flash Flooding

Police said no injuries were reported after borough officials urged evacuation on Wednesday night. But the Delaware River has yet to crest.

YARDLEY, PA — Yardley residents east of the Delaware Canal were urged to evacuate Wednesday night around 10 p.m., as the waterway had overflowed its banks. On Thursday morning, the Yardley Borough Police Department reported that no residents had been injured.

Rivermawr and Flats residents were encouraged to evacuate their homes due to flooding caused by Hurricane Ida's remnants moving through eastern Pennsylvania. River Road had become impassable Wednesday night, and remains closed this morning.

  • All lanes are closed on Route 32 between Ferry Road and Richard Road due to a downed tree. Route 32 is also closed in both directions between Richard Road and from 0611-0500 SH.
  • North and South Delaware Avenue are both closed, according to police.

"Give yourself extra time and prepare to be detoured," police said.

Water has not yet receded on North and South Delaware Avenues, according to borough officials. Debris still needs to be cleared.

Police reported "limited property damage" on Thursday morning, though more flooding is probable as the Delaware River is expected to crest around 2 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

On Wednesday evening, the Delaware River reached 20.7 feet; on Friday, it's expected to crest at 22.2 feet. Though Ida has moved on, water is still flowing from upstate and high tide will affect its levels.

The Pennsbury School District closed schools on Thursday.

"Multiple officers and auxiliary officers will be deployed over the next 36 hours," police said. "If you have to travel, please follow the directions of these emergency responders."

Residents experiencing power outages should contact PECO directly, police said. More than 8,000 people in Bucks County were without power Thursday morning, according to a report by the Bucks County Courier Times.

Officials said mandatory evacuations due to the storm are not likely.
