1. 14 protesters cited following Starbucks strike in York (fox43.com) — Fourteen people were detained and cited Monday morning during a strike at the Starbucks York Distribution Center in York County, part of a broader national push by unionized workers. Organizers say baristas and allies are demanding a fair living wage and better protections, marking the second demonstration at the site in a month. The action coincided with similar protests in other states.
   

2. Family loses home after escaping overnight blaze in York County: fire company (local21news.com) — A family in Manheim Township, York County, lost their home in an overnight fire but managed to escape safely, with the Red Cross now assisting them. Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company battled the blaze in brutal cold and is seeking donated supplies like winter gear, blankets, hygiene items, laundry products, and gift cards to better support displaced families.
   

3. Grants available in Pennsylvania's York, Lancaster watersheds (outdoornews.com) — York County landowners, municipalities, and groups can now apply for state-managed grants to improve local streams and reduce sediment, with up to $75,000 available per project. Funded by Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station and Muddy Run, the program supports work like small dam removals and farm best practices. Applications for York or Lancaster County projects are due by Feb. 20, 2026.
   

4. 'It's the least we can do': York Community hosts Ruck to show support for officer battling colon cancer (wgal.com) — York County neighbors and Eastern York students came together Monday morning for a weighted “Ruck” walk to support Hellam Police Officer Justin Golder as he begins treatment for colon cancer. Community members say Golder has long been a pillar in the area, and organizers are encouraging residents to pitch in through a GoFundMe to help his family with this new fight.

From clearing snow off gas meters and vents to using space heaters safely and cutting heating costs with simple home adjustments, the guidance aims to prevent carbon monoxide risks and high bills while keeping your household comfortable this season.
