Arrest Made In Fatal Cranston Crash: Cops

A Providence man was charged with driving to endanger — death resulting, police said.

CRANSTON, RI — A Providence man was charged with driving to endanger — death resulting in connection with a fatal crash, police said.

Juan Archila, 43, was located and arrested following the Wednesday afternoon crash, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a Honda Accord traveling in the high-speed lane of Interstate 295 in Cranston was forced off the road by another vehicle and crashed into a tree in the center median, witnesses reported to police, according to the release.

"The operator of the Honda, identified as Casey Bassignani, age 23, of Johnston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Cranston Rescue where she was pronounced deceased," the release said.

Archila was arraigned Thursday morning and taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions where he was held on a $50,000 surety bond, according to the release.
