PROVIDENCE, RI — A federal prosecutor requested a warrant for the arrest of a Providence man charged with threatening to kill President Trump, Attorney General Pamela Bondi and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Dulce Donovan's motion for the issuance of an arrest warrant was denied Wednesday but an in-person bond revocation hearing for Carl Montague, 38, was scheduled for Dec. 9.

Donovan claimed in her motion that Montague, who was released after his first court appearance July 9, has violated the conditions of that release.

Prosecutors already attempted to have Montague locked up, requesting on July 25 to have him detained "because (he) posed a danger to the targets of his threats and the community, the weight of the evidence against the defendant is strong, and his history and characteristics demonstrate that he is unable to live within the community according to conditions set by the Court without posing a danger to others and the community."

That request was also denied but Montague was ordered to submit to GPS monitoring, remain at the Providence halfway house where he was living from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., abstain from alcohol use and seek employment.

That hasn't happened, according to Donovan.

"Since his August 18, 2025, arraignment, (Montague) has four times violated his conditions of pretrial release by consuming alcohol," Donovan said in her motion.

"In addition, it appears from the violation report that (Montague) has not abided by the condition that he seek employment," she said. "Further, most recently, on November 21, 2025, the defendant called the location monitoring line after hours, advised he had been drinking and that he was going to self-report for treatment. Significantly, during the call, he directed profane language at the United States Probations Office to whom he was speaking."

To make matters worse, the halfway house "discharged" Montague, leaving him with "no home address to report to upon his release from treatment," according to the motion.

"Moreover, the violation report details that (Montague) does not have his charger for his location monitoring device," Donovan said in her motion. "This means that once his location monitoring device battery is depleted, (his) location will be unknown."

Montague was arrested after "Trump Media and Technology ... the parent organization of social media platform Truth Social, notified the United States Secret Service" on June 27 of a threatening post directed toward Trump, Bondi and Miller, FBI Special Agent Ciara Corbett said in an affidavit filed in federal court.

The threat, posted by Truth Social user @tacoustic, said, "It's a shame you won't get to see the end of your fl'***** term, because I'm gonna make sure I put a bullet rate (sic) between your fl'***** head you piece of s***, you Pam Bondi. Stephen fl'***** miller, all you b******, are gonna get a fl'***** bullet to the head every single fl'***** one of you," according to the affidavit.

Agents tracked the IP address for @tacoustic back to the Providence halfway house and headed over June 29, but as it was a Sunday, the front office was closed and they could not get inside the building, the affidavit said.

Agents returned the next day and apprehended Montague despite his bid to hide in a bathtub, the affidavit said.

"Montague stated he was smoking a lot of marijuana when he posted the threat," the affidavit said. "Montague claimed he deleted his Truth Social account after sending the message. Montague was upset with current politics and expressed his frustrations via Truth Social."
