High Bacteria Counts At Spouting Rock Beach Association And Gooseberry Beach
The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing the swimming areas.
NEWPORT, RI — High bacteria counts were discovered at Newport's Spouting Rock Beach Association and Gooseberry Beach, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.
The department of health on Thursday recommended closing the swimming areas at both the Spouting Rock Beach Association and Gooseberry Beach due to the high bacteria counts.
"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said in a media release. The status of a beach may change as new data become available."
