Providence Murderer Catches New Assault Case

The Providence man was sentenced in 2019 to life in prison.

CRANSTON, RI — A Providence man serving a life sentence for murder was charged Thursday with felony and simple assault.

Cedric Dalomba, 29, pleaded guilty in 2019 to charges of second degree murder, discharge of a firearm when committing a crime of violence and felony assault.

Dalomba shot and killed Marcelino Debarros, an aspiring professional boxer, in November 2017, according to the Providence County Superior Court decision denying Dalomba's application for postconviction relief.

Dalomba also wounded Debarros’ cousin Jalin Braxton, the decision said.

The assault case filed against Dalomba was the "result of an investigation conducted by members of the Special Investigations Unit and the (Adult Correctional Institutions) Investigations Unit," the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Dalomba's bond was set at $10,000 and he was issued a non-domestic no contact order.

State police Lt. Col. Robert Creamer and the state police legal office did not immediately respond when asked for further information and the police reports associated with Dalomba's assault case.
