Providence Women's Hockey Downs Maine In OT

The Friars triumphed 3-2 over the University of Maine Friday.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Maine 3-2 in overtime Friday.

The win boosted the Friars' record at 3-6-0, 1-2-0 in divisional play. Maine fell to 2-6-0, 0-1-0 in divisional play.

Junior Audrey Knapp opened the scoring 31 seconds into the game. Freshman Hannah Clarke and senior Cristina Cavaliere were credited with the assists.

Maine tied it up less than two minutes later but Providence regained the lead early in the second period with a goal from senior Reichen Kirchmair. Cavaliere and Knapp each collected their second point of the afternoon with the assists.

The Black Bears responded just 27 seconds later when Lily Fetch tied the game 2-2. Ava Stevenson and Altman were credited with the assists.

Sarah Davies scored the game-winner on a breakaway with less than a minute left in overtime. Davies has fourth career game-winning goals.

Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski finished with 20 saves for the Friars.

Providence is now 2-0-0 in overtime this season.
