Rhode Island-Based Jobs Up 500 From July: State

August unemployment was down 0.2%, according to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.

Jobs at Rhode Island businesses rose by 500 in August as the state’s unemployment rate dropped 0.2% to 4.6%, according to the Department of Labor and Training.

Jobs increased by 1,700 from August 2024 and the unemployment rate was up a tenth of a percentage point, the department reported.

Rhode Island's unemployment rate in August 2024 was 4.5%, according to the department, and 4.2% nationwide.

"The number of unemployed Rhode Island residents — those residents classified as available for and actively seeking employment — was 27,100, down 1,000 from July," the Department of Labor said in a media release. "The number of unemployed residents was up 700 over the year."
