Maximum Security Inmate Injured In 'Incident' With Other Prisoner: Official

The injuries were not life-threatening, according to a Department of Corrections spokesman.

CRANSTON, RI — A Rhode Island maximum security inmate was injured in an "incident" with another Prisoner, a spokesman said.

“An incident between two inmates in the Maximum Security facility today resulted in one inmate being treated for non life-threatening injuries," J.R. Ventura, the chief of information and public relations/public information officer for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, said in an email.

"The Rhode Island Department of Corrections has a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who jeopardizes the safety and security of anyone in our care," Ventura said.

"The individual who committed the assault has been removed from general population, pending a referral for criminal prosecution and disciplinary action," he said. "The investigation is ongoing.”
