Rhode Island No. 2 In Nation For Speed-Related Crashes: Study
Only one other state for its percentage of fatal crashes involving speeding, the study determined.
Rhode Island is second in the nation when it comes to the percentage of fatal crashes involving speeding, a recent study revealed.
The study, conducted by California bail bond service King Stahlman Bail Bonds, "examined five years of federal crash reports to uncover where speeding contributes to fatal collisions at the highest rate," according to a media release.

"While some states appear predictably high due to vast rural networks or heavy interstate use, others might surprise you, including the state that now holds the No. 1 position for deadly speeding crashes in America," the release said.

That state was Hawaii, which had a 45.8% rate of fatal crashes involving speeding, according to the release.
"Despite its small geographic size, Hawaii has notoriously challenging driving conditions: winding coastal roads, steep gradients, and limited alternative routes," the release said. "Combine that with a strong car culture and tourism-heavy traffic, and speeding becomes a far more dangerous risk factor than many residents and visitors might assume."

Right behind Hawaii was Rhode Island with 45.3% of its fatal crashes involving speeding.
"The state’s compact road network often funnels drivers into tight merges, narrow highways, and busy corridors," the release said. "Local law enforcement agencies have also repeatedly warned about aggressive driving and speed-related collisions on I-95, one of the busiest routes in the Northeast."

Florida came in with the lowest percentage of fatal crashes involving speed at 9.66%.
