Warwick Man, 77, Dies After Being Hit By A Car

Police said the 77-year-old man was struck on Centerville Road while trying to cross the street outside his house.

WARWICK, RI — A man died Thursday after being struck by a car in Warwick, according to police.

Police said the 77-year-old man was struck on Centerville Road while trying to cross the street outside his house. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police have not released the man's identity.

Police said the 24-year-old driver remained on scene.

"The reconstruction teams' initial review has determined that the operator was not under the influence and speed was not a factor," police said in a statement Friday. "The pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway in an area with no cross walks and limited street lighting."
