Barrington Names Phil Hervey Its Next Town Manager

For more than 15 years, Hervey has served as the town's planner, helping to secure about 50 grants totaling more than $6.4 million.

BARRINGTON, RI — Barrington town officials hired Town Planner Philip Hervey as the next town manager.

Hervey will replace Jim Cunha, who is retiring on Jan. 1, 2022.

"I am thrilled to have Phil Hervey as our new Town Manager,ā€ said Barrington Town Council
President Michael Carroll. "His 16 years of experience working for the Town of Barrington
demonstrate that he knows and loves this community that he calls home. He is also the right
person for this time. Because we are surrounded by water, Barrington faces enormous
challenges from climate change and sea level rise, and these are where his extensive planning

experience will serve us well as we prepare for the future."

For more than 15 years, Hervey has served as the town's planner, helping to secure about 50 grants totaling more than $6.4 million for Barrington, including money from the National Park Service and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

Hervey was one of 40 applicants for Barrington town manager. He has overseen various municipal
projects for the town, such as Latham Park Phases 1 and 2, Town Beach recreation and water
quality improvements and energy efficiency projects.

"Over the past 15 years, I have enjoyed serving as Barrington’s Town Planner and Director of
Planning, Building and Resiliency,"Hervey said in a statement. "I am honored to continue to serve the community as town manager, and look forward to continuing to work closely with the Council
and hard-working staff to provide essential services, maintain a fiscally responsible budget and
prepare for the challenges of the future."
