Barrington Resident Accepted into AFI Conservatory Program

Barrington High School '09 alum, Seth Chitwood, will attend the American Film Institute Screenwriting Program

BARRINGTON, RI: This fall, Seth Chitwood, will be attending the prestigious American Film Institute Conservatory as a Screenwriting Fellow in Los Angeles. He is one of only twenty-six students accepted into the concentration this year.

Chitwood attended Barrington High School ’09 and received a double major B.F.A. at Rhode Island College in Film Studies and Theatre Performance. He spent the last six years running the independent production company, Angelwood Pictures, creating and producing several award-winning web series and short films. Imagine Magazine recently honored him with the “Rising Star” Special Achievement Award.

The AFI Conservatory offers a Master of Fine Arts degree in six disciplines: Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting. Accomplished professionals serve as mentors and Faculty to Fellows in mastering their chosen disciplines. Led by a Senior Filmmaker-in-Residence, the faculty works intensively with Fellows in a sophisticated curriculum designed for talented individuals with a clear passion for storytelling. This is a two-year program.

Unlike traditional graduate film programs, the AFI Conservatory uses hands-on collaboration as its primary teaching tool, providing an experience mirroring the real-world professional filmmaking environment in which Fellows from all disciplines collaborate to tell their stories and fulfill their vision. AFI Conservatory Fellows collectively produce more than 120 short narrative productions each year.
