Binge-Drinking Teen Rushed to Hospital
The Barrington boy, 17, reportedly downed up to 8 shots of vodka before collapsing into an incoherent stupor at a Talcott Street home.

Another binge-drinking Barrington teenager was rushed to the hospital last week -- the second teen in a couple of weeks believed to be suffering from alcohol poisoning.
This time the binge drinker was a 17-year-old boy at a home on Talcott Street not far from Barrington Beach. Barrington patrol officers and EMTs responded about 11 pm last Wednesday, June 12.
“Fortunately, someone contacted the police through the tip line,” said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. “We can be happy about that.”

The teen was found “incoherent” and showing all the signs of alcohol poisoning, said LaCross.
The tipster said that the boy downed “seven or eight shots of vodka,” said the police chief. His father was believed to be out of town.

The previous binge drinker rushed to the hospital -- also the result of a call to the tip line by a friend -- was a 15-year-old girl found on Mussachuck Beach at the end of Annawamscutt Drive in West Barrington on June 2 at about 1 am.
She allegedly drank a bottle of whiskey and passed out. The police report said the girl was completely unresponsive with shallow breathing.
“Summer is here,” said LaCross. “Kids experiment. We know that.”
LaCross said parents and friends must be aware of the dangers and consequences of binge drinking. Alcohol poisoning can kill or cause severe injury to the brain and other vital organs.
