Brier & Brier Insurance Agency Expands to Include Third Generation

Brier & Brier expands to include a third generation of the Brier family, as it enters its 40th year of serving clients, with Jacob Brier joining the insurance and employee benefits agency.

As a father-son partnership of the late Milton I. Brier and his son, Jeffrey G. Brier, Brier & Brier began as an independent insurance agency, working with clients to protect their financial interests and long-term goals. Over the years, the agency expanded to include commercial health, property & casualty insurance, and a range of employee benefits.

For the past 35 years, Brier & Brier has worked in partnership with The Egis Group to write and set property and casualty insurance policies for clients. This partnership enabled Brier & Brier to offer insurance coverage of all kinds, easing a burden faced by many businesses and individuals; navigating the insurance landscape.

Jacob entered the insurance industry in 2019, assisting small business clients with commercial health plans. It began as a “side hustle,” while working full-time as the Operations Director of an 80-person software agency. In 2023, Jacob incorporated insurance sales alongside a consulting business, Butterfly Benefits LLC, which helps organizations interact with people by aligning good policy with good values, supporting inclusive communications, and helping leaders enact pragmatic solutions to strategic challenges.

This deep background in human resources and small business finance “gives me a perspective and skillset that enabled me to bring something valuable to the table,” Jacob said. “This new layer of professional experience compliments what Brier & Brier has been doing really well for just about my whole life. Being able to add to, rather than simply step into the business empty handed was important,” they added.

With that experience and value-add in mind, it was a different area of insurance altogether that provided the catalyst for Jacob to join the family business.

Ten years ago, Jeffrey began working with Medicare clients, helping them navigate the enrollment process and confidently make informed decisions between the various Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans available. The growth in this area, and the opportunity to provide a service to people in need of assistance without having to charge for that service, was the compelling element that Jeffrey shared during a lunch together in Warren.

“Jacob’s professional background coupled with the desire to help others led me to suggest that Jacob expand into the Medicare market,” said Jeffrey. “Jacob’s computer acumen has quickly allowed us to update our communications and stay in touch with our clients.”

Jacob is also a Flex Facilitator with half full llc, helping teams and individuals overcome obstacles in the way of moving forward, and they have held numerous service roles, including as a member of the Barrington Town Council, a member of the HealthSourceRI Advisory Board, and they were a member of the Kappa II cohort of Leadership Rhode Island.
