Dog Waste Signs Deliver Warning
The new signs at Barrington's playing fields tell dog owners about the town's ordinance about picking up their poop.

Pick up your dog poop β or face the consequences.
Thatβs the simple message new signs put up at most of Barringtonβs playing fields is trying to deliver.
βThe Barrington DPW has put up new signs at most of the entrances of town playing fields, including the high school, at the request of the Parks and Recreation Commission,β said Mike Seward, chairman of that board.

The ordinance referred to on the sign specifically says: β No person who owns, possesses or controls a dog shall appear with such dog in any public area or private property neither owned nor occupied by such person without such means of removal of any feces left by such dog.β
The ordinance also says: βIt shall be the duty of each person who owns, possesses or controls a dog to remove and dispose of any feces left by the dog on any sidewalk, street, park, cemetery or other public area.Β It shall further be the duty of each person who owns, possesses, or controls a dog to remove and dispose of any feces left by the animal on any private property neither owned nor occupied by such person.β

Β βWe would like people to be aware that if they witness a person with a dog making a mess that is not cleaned up, they can call Barrington Animal Control officer at 437-3935 orΒ pwatson@barrington.ri.gov to report the situation and she promises to follow up each call,β said Seward.
