Final Day for Staples Store in Barrington
The office supplies retailer is closing its doors today.
After today, June 29, you’ll have to travel elsewhere if you buy your office supplies from Staples in Barrington.
The store in the Barrington Shopping Plaza closes at the end of the day – one of 30 stores being shut down by the Framingham, Mass., based retailer.
The store’s employees were being offered jobs in other stores, according to Jeremy Tobin, Barrington store manager. The inventory that remains will be shipped to other stores as well.

Staples is the largest office supplier in the U.S. and the second largest online retailer behind Amazon.com. It plans on focusing on its online retail operation, according to a Staples announcement last fall.
“We are focusing on our biggest opportunities, aligning our organization to address the needs of our customers, and reducing exposure to our weakest businesses,” said Ron Sargent, Staples’ CEO. “This puts us in a much stronger position to drive long-term sales and earnings growth.”
