Firefighters' Races Will Run Rain or Shine

The annual Barrington Firefighters Local 1774 Charity Road Race and festival will be held Sunday no matter what Mother Nature brings.

The annual firefighters 5K road race and family festival will run rain or shine in Barrington on Sunday morning, May 26.

β€œAll race events will be held,” said Ted Paull, the coordinator for the Barrington Firefighters Local 1774 5K Charity Road Race. β€œIf it’s pouring, though, some of the other events might not happen. It depends on the weather.”

Paull said he has been keeping a close eye on the forecasts. But no matter what Mother Nature brings, he said, the races will go on starting in front of Barrington High School on Lincoln Avenue.

The three kids races will start at 9:30 am and run back to back. The 2-mile walk will start at 10:15 am. The 5K feature race will start at 11 am.

Proceeds generated from the races are donated to local charities through the Barrington RI Firefighters Charity Fund. Some proceeds this year also will go to the AfterProm committee at Barrington High School, Paull said.

The 5K course starts and finishes at Barrington High School and will travel along Lincoln Avenue, Upland Way, Foote Street, Prince’s Hill Avenue, Maple Avenue, and Middle Highway. The event is professionally timed and $100 prizes will be awarded to top runners, Paull said, with an additional $100 prize if a runner breaks the course record.Β

Other activities include a runners' raffle, music by a DJ, refreshments, professional booths, touch a fire truck, the Pink Heals fire truck, children's moon bounce, a dunk tank, and a cookout.
