Rhode Island Gas Prices Near $3 A Gallon

The average price of gas in Rhode Island hit $2.83 to start May — the highest in 4 years. Prices are expected to climb through Memorial Day.

BARRINGTON, RI — Rhode Island gas prices hit the highest levels in 4 years and experts say they will continue rising through at least Memorial Day. The average price of gas in Rhode Island hit $2.83 Tuesday, according to AAA. The most expensive gas in the state was at Den's Auto Repair in Smithfield ($2.96) and Alltown in Wakefield ($2.93), according to GasBuddy. The least expensive gas was at Douglas Food Mart & Gas in Providence ($2.68).

Nationwide, gas price hit an average of $2.81 Tuesday and nine states were at $3 or higher. Connecticut gas prices hit $2.96 while Massachusetts ($2. 81) and New Hampshire ($2.74) has the cheapest gas in New England.

“We expect prices to continue increasing, potentially another 10 cents, through Memorial Day and then will likely stabilize during the summer,” said AAA spokesperson Jeanette Casselano in a statement.
