BARRINGTON, RI — A teen figure skater from Rhode Island and his mother both died in the Washington, D.C., plane crash on Wednesday night, where a commercial jet collided with a military helicopter.

Skating Club of Boston CEO Doug Zeghibe said Spencer Lane, 16, and his mother, Christine Lane, both of Barrington, were on the plane. Other club members who died in the crash included skater Jinna Han, 13, and her mother Jin Han, both of Mansfield, Massachusetts, and coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.

The skating group was returning from the U.S. Figure Skating National Development Camp, which took place after the U.S. Championships in Kansas. They were supposed to board a connecting flight at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, before flying back to Logan Airport in Boston.

"Our sport and this club have suffered a horrible loss with this tragedy," Zeghibe said. "Skating is a tight-knit community where parents and kids come together six or seven days a week to train and work together. Everyone is like family. Of the coaches, skaters, and parents on the plane, we believe six were from the Skating Club of Boston. We are devastated and completely at a loss for words."

There is no longer hope of survivors being found at the site of the crash involving an American Airlines passenger flight and a military helicopter, according to emergency officials in Washington, D.C.
