Riverside Man, 61, Faces DUI Charge

Barrington police pulled the man over on Middle Highway traveling 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

A Riverside man, 61, was charged with drunk driving by Barrington police after he was stopped for speeding and crossing the fog line in his vehicle. 

Paul R. Lowry, of 43 Grassyplain Road, was observed by a patrol officer traveling north on Middle Highway near Winsor Drive at 45 mph in a 25 mph zone at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 28.  Lowry’s vehicle also reportedly swerved across the fog line.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the arresting officer found unopened cans of beer in the vehicle along with a New England Patriots' travel mug that contained alcohol.

Lowry had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had difficulty with the field sobriety test, the police chief said.

His rights were read at the scene and again at the police station not far away on Federal Road, where he was arraigned by a justice of the peace.

He was held overnight and taken to District Court the following morning to face a DUI charge and a separate charge of refusing to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol level.
