Bristol Buys 120 Acres Of Land From Brown University
Town officials say the land will be open for use by the public for hiking, horseback riding, and other recreational activities.

BRISTOL, RI ā Bristol recently purchased 120 acres of open space on Tower Street from Brown University, town officials said last week.
In January 2023, Town Administrator Steven Contente sent a letter to Brown University expressing the townās interest in purchasing the property. The woodland abuts existing town property and will be used as perpetual open space and natural habitat, town officials said.
Town officials said the land will be open for use by the public for hiking, horseback riding, and other recreational activities.

"We are always looking for opportunities to preserve open space." Contente said. "Weāre pleased to support future efforts to preserve that land and ensure it will not be developed ā and now, many generations will enjoy it and wildlife will continue to thrive there."
Town officials said the purchase received the full support from members of the town council, who were involved with discussions during executive sessions.
