An Art Odyssey to Feature Work from Artists at a Joint Exhibit Sponsored by the Bristol Aret Museum and Rogers Free Library.

BRISTOL, Rhode Island - The Bristol Art Museum and Rogers Free Library announce a call for art for a new juried, community exhibit that will share an artist’s expressions of a journey. A journey can be imaginary, emotional, sensory, or literal and for the purpose of the call for art, is open to artistic interpretation. Chosen pieces will be featured in An Art Odyssey, an exhibit in the Community Galleries in the Rogers Free Library that opens on Tues., Mar. 28 and closes on Thursday, May 4.

Artists are welcome to complete submission registration on the Bristol Art Museum website, by Mon., Mar. 13.

An Art Odyssey is an exhibition organized in complementary spirit to the 2023 Bristol Bookfest selection of The Odyssey, the epic tale of a hero’s journey from uncertainty to certitude against profound odds. Roger Williams University Professor of Art Anna Tait, MFA will serve as juror for the exhibit.

“The Bristol Art Museum and Rogers Free Library are pleased to announce this latest community exhibit featuring work from local and regional artists,” said Vicky McGrath, Bristol Art Museum board member. “Through this call for art, we welcome, inspire and challenge artists to share their own unique interpretation of a journey upon which they have completed, are currently pursuing or have completed. This unique partnership between the library and museum is one of many initiatives to enhance the arts and culture offerings in the southeastern region of New England.”

Drawings, paintings, printing making, collage, fiber arts or photography are accepted in this call for art, but not 3-dimensional pieces or sculpture. Submitted artwork must not exceed 18 inches by 24 inches (including frame), be ready to install with wire on the back of the frame and all pieces must be original. Professor Tait teaches printmaking and painting in the Visual Arts Program at Roger Williams University and has extensively studied lettering and embroidery over her 30 years of creating art. Prof. Tait’s work has been supported through grants from the Rhode Island Council for the Arts, the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, the Vermont Council for the Humanities, and Roger Williams University. Her work has been widely recognized with awards for her efforts to preserve urban cemeteries in Providence and as artist in residence at Gettysburg National Park. At present, Prof. Tait serves on the boards of the Association for Gravestone Studies, Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island, and Trinity Gateway Historical Improvement Association for Grace Church Cemetery where she was artist in residence from 2006-2011.
