Judge Orders NJ Man Held Without Bail

Daniel Berger, 27, of Haskell, NJ, was arrested last week in connection with a missing 13-year-old Portsmouth girl. She was later found in his New Jersey apartment.

A New Jersey man was ordered to be held without bail Tuesday in connection with the disappearance of a 13-year-old Portsmouth girl, who was later found in his apartment.Ā 

FederalĀ Magistrate Judge Lincoln Almond ordered Daniel Berger, 27, of Haskell, NJ, to beĀ held without bail until a hearingĀ on Aug. 7, reportsĀ Projo.com.Ā 

Berger was arrested last week after authorities, includingĀ the FBI, discovered the missing PortsmouthĀ teen in his New Jersey apartment.

The teen's disappearance on the morning of July 24 prompted Portsmouth and State Police to issue an Amber Alert. She was found in the pre-dawn hours on July 25 in Berger's apartment.Ā 

The 27-year-old New JerseyĀ manĀ has beenĀ charged with transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal, sexual activity, a felony. If convicted, Berger could face a sentence of 10 years to life.Ā
