Rhode Island's 2nd West Nile Sample of 2025 Spotted In Bristol: State

The first sample was found in East Providence, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management reported.

BRISTOL, RI — Rhode Island's second West Nile virus sample of 2025 was found July 2028, the state's Department of Environmental Management reported Thursday.

"The virus was found in a mosquito sample collected by DEM in Bristol on July 28 and tested by the Rhode Island State Health Laboratories," the department said in a media release.

The first West Nile virus sample was found in East Providence a week earlier.

"The other mosquito samples collected statewide showed no signs of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV), or additional WNV," the release said.
