RI Man Sues Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo Over 'CR7' Logo

Christopher Renzi, who reportedly lives in East Greenwich, claims he trademarked the phrase in 2009.

A Rhode Island man claims soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo deserves a red card for using the logo ā€œCR7ā€ on his underwear line.

The Associated Press reported Christopher Renzi filed a lawsuit this week against Ronaldo—a forward for Real Madrid who also led Portugal’s squad in this year’s World Cup.

Renzi claims that he trademarked ā€œCR7ā€ā€”a combination of his initials and birthday—for clothing and an exercise program he developed. He also sued Denmark-based JBS Textile Group, which produces Ronaldo’s underwear line.
