Riverside Woman Working In MA School Killed When Teen Kicked Her In Chest: DA
The teen was a student at a residential therapeutic school for youth and young adults, according to the DA's office.

SWANSEA, MA — A Riverside woman working at a residential therapeutic school for youth and young adults was killed when a teenage student kicked her in the chest, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
Amy Morrell, 53, collapsed after she was kicked in the chest by a 14-year-old female student at Meadowridge Academy in Swansea shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the district attorney's office.

The teen was attempting to leave a dormitory building without permission, the release said.
Morrell and other staffers were attempting to restrain the teen when she kicked Morrell in the chest, according to the release.

"Staff began CPR and called 911," the release said. "Swansea EMS transported the victim to a local hospital."
Morrell remained hospitalized overnight and died Thursday afternoon, the release said.

A Meadowridge Academy spokesperson extended the school community's condolences to Morrell's family.
"The Meadowridge Academy community is deeply saddened by the passing of direct care staff member, Amy Morrell," the spokesperson said in an email. "We extend our heartfelt condolences to Amy’s family during this difficult time. Support services and resources are available to assist students and staff as we grieve this tragic loss."

Swansea police and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office responded to Meadowridge Academy after the deadly kick, according to the release.
"Based upon the initial investigation the juvenile was charged with Assault and Battery causing Serious Bodily Injury and was arraigned (Thursday) morning in the Fall River Juvenile Court," according to the release, which said the "investigation remains active and ongoing."
