These Are The Top 5 Safest Towns In Rhode Island: Safewise 2025 List

BRISTOL, RI — Safewise has released its rankings of the safest cities in every U.S. state, including Rhode Island

Bristol was named the safest town in Rhode Island, according to the 2025 State of Safety in America rankings from Safewise.com.

The report was released last month and named the safest cities in the country based on crime rates and other data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This was the sixth consecutive year Bristol has taken the top slot.

"I can’t thank the sworn and civilian support staff enough," Police Chief Kevin Lynch said. "It’s their hard work in the field day-in and day-out, poise and care which is the catalyst for this achievement for the past 6-years. We owe a great deal of gratitude to our town leadership. Town Administrator Steven Contente’s continued support of our internal goals and objectives and his passion for professional public safety in concert with the town council is so appreciated. I think just as important is the support the community gives us, which is truly the driving force for the department staff to continue to perform at the highest levels."

Here's a look at the cities and towns that made up the rest of the top five.

1. Bristol
2. South Kingstown
3. Cumberland
4. North Kingstown
5. Smithfield.

The Ocean State was ranked one of the safest in the country. According to the Safewise survey, 10 percent of respondents said they were victims of violent crime, down from 16 percent in 2016. As far as property crime, only residents in North Carolina and Massachusetts saw less than Rhode Island, according to survey respondents.
