Torrential Rains Damages Warren's Metacom Ave, 2 Lanes Closed
Two-way traffic will be possible during the repairs in the two southbound lanes.
WARREN, RI ā Two lanes on Metacom Avenue will remain closed Friday due to damage caused by heavy rainfall late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
The two-lane closure where Metacom Avenue meets Vernon Street will allow Rhode Island Department of Transportation crews to repair the damaged pavement. On the northbound side of the road, the torrential rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ida caused sinkholes, heaved pavement and cracking of the roadway, the department said.
Two-way traffic will continue in the two southbound lanes.

Crews "will work aggressively to complete the repairs as soon as possible and reopen the road fully," RIDOT said. Depending on the extent of the damage, the two lanes could remain closed throughout the weekend and into early next week.
