Warren Firefighters Practice Ice Rescues Amid Winter Chill

Firefighters simulated a rescue of a person or animal that fell through the ice.

WARREN, RI — Warren firefighters braved the brisk weather this weekend to practice ice rescues, preparing for potentially dangers rescues.

Members of the department practiced the drill Sunday at the pond at Frerichs Farm, simulating a rescue of a person or animal that fell through the ice.

The department reminded residents that it's important to keep pets off of ice, and to never assume ice is a safe thickness for fishing, skating or other recreational activities.

Photos taken at the scene show the firefighters carefully sliding out onto the ice with a sled, used to pull the "victim" to safety at the shore.
