  • 11 am: St. Patrick's Day Parade: Cross the bridge early and get over to Newport for the annual event. Click here for traffic and parking restrictions in Newport. Later in the day, there are two "post-parade cruises — Eddie's Shoe on the Majestic at 1:30 pm and Flash Mob on the Majestic at 8 pm. Both are $25 and take off from Bowen's Wharf.
  • 2 pm: "The Changing RI Meadow" at RI Wild Plant Society: If the noise of the parade isn't your thing, contemplate the vibrant ecosystem of the East Bay's meadows described by John Gwynne from Sakonnet Garden. Free.

Sunday, March 17:

  • All day: St. Patrick's Parade Clean-Up: Honor the green by getting Newport clean. With the festivities over, Newport will need some tidying — and some merchants along the parade route, including the Brick Alley Pub, are heading up teams of volunteers for the job. Ask around — and lend a hand.
  • 6:30 pm: St. Patrick's Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner: St. Thomas the Apostle Rectory hosts the feast, sponsored by Warren Unit #11, American Legion Auxiliary. $12 of green.
