What's Happening This Weekend in Bristol and Warren?

Here are some things to know about this weekend, Jan. 18-20, in and around Bristol and Warren. It's a three-day weekend for many people because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20.

The first “crop” of what are expected to be monthly scrapbooking crops takes place Saturday, Jan. 18, at the former St. Jean Baptiste parish in Warren. June Sousa, a former events coordinator for Michael’s crafts store in Seekonk, Mass., is organizing the session. It runs from 10 am to 4 pm at 324 Main St. It will bring together people of all ages and talents to build a scrapbook. 

The Positively Saturday Winter Series continues at the East Bay Chamber of Commerce, 16 Cutler St., Warren. Learn more about why thinking positively really matters and, even more important, how to begin to shift to this way of thinking. See 'Despicable Me 2' on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, at the Rogers Free Library, 525 Hope St., Bristol. It's part of the Saturday afternoon winter movie series to air in the Herreshoff Community Room at 1 pm. Free admission and free popcorn.

Need we mention the New England Patriots playing for the NFL's American Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19, in Denver against the Broncos. The game starts at 3 pm. If the Patriots win, they will head to the Super Bowl on Feb. 2 to face either the San Francisco 49ers or Seattle Seahawks in the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

A Parenting Support Group will meet on Sunday evening, Jan. 19, at 6 pm in the Tildsley Building at St. Michael’s Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol. This group is for parents of preschool and school age children who want to discuss the everyday challenges they encounter in raising children, including building self-esteem, problem-solving together, safety issues, holiday stress and any other concerns.  A mental health professional facilitates discussion. Looking for something for your children to day on Monday, Jan. 20, when schools in Rhode Island are closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Providence Children's Museum presents: "MLK: Amazing Grace." Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson bring history to life through songs and stories as they portray civil rights activists Rosa Parks, Ralph Abernathy and others. The performance is recommended for children 5 and up. Show times are 11:30 am and 1 and 2:30 pm. Admission is $9.
