Cautious Optimism Neglected Dog Found In Coventry Recovers
The dog's blood test came back positive for heart worm and anemia.

COVENTRY, RI — Veterinarians and animal control are "cautiously optimistic" the female pit bull found neglected and malnourished last Monday will recover.
The dog found at Woodland Drive Monday morning was the second neglected dog found in Coventry in a 48-hour period. Police believe both dogs may be connected to the same suspect. The first pitbull found had to be put-down after succumbing to its injuries.
According to a Coventry Police Facebook statement, the dog's blood test came back positive for heart worm and anemia.

"She is currently receiving veterinary care, food and medication," police said. "She is doing well in the care of our capable animal control officers."

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is offering a $1000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspects. Animal shelter Handsome Dan's Rescue the Volunteer Services for Animals have also pledged $500 each, adding to the RISPCA reward for information.
