Coventry High School Alumni Association Donations to CHS Engineering Initiative

Donation Given By the CHS Alumni Association to support the Engineering Initiative

The Coventry High School Alumni Association recently donated $500 to CHS’s Engineering Initiative to support relevant field trips or for the purpose of purchasing equipment. The donation was initiated by a $250 donation from Dr. James F. Bell, a CHS graduate from the Class of 1983 who is currently a professor of physics at Arizona State University. Dr. Bell is an imaging expert who worked on the imaging team for Mars Rover Programs. His donation was matched by the CHSAA and donated to the program. Students in the program are taking the same math and science classes and will visit engineering sites to enhance student understanding of engineering principles and career opportunities. The instructors in the program are Ken Leonard of the Science and Technology Department and Michael Cook of the Mathematics Department.

The CHSAA was founded in 2009 to provide scholarships to seniors, conduct the selection process and induction into the Alumni Hall of Fame, and to support school projects. During 2016, $13000 in scholarships were presented to CHS seniors and $850 was donated for school projects. More information is available at www.oakeralumni.org or on our Facebook page.
