Coventry Man Pleads Not Guilty In Deadly Drunken Crash

Prosecutors say Kevin Gallagher, 40, of Coventry, struck and killed David Lynch, 63, at an intersection in Providence.

COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry man who prosecutors said killed a pedestrian in a drunken crash in Providence last year appeared in court on Tuesday.

Kevin Gallagher, 40, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence with death resulting and reckless driving with death resulting.

According to prosecutors, Gallagher struck and killed David Lynch, 63, on May 30, 2024.

Prosecutors said Lynch was walking through the intersection of North Main and Randall Streets. Prosecutors said Gallagher crashed into a grass island after he hit Lynch. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, police said.

Gallagher was granted $30,000 bail with surety. He was ordered not to drive at least until his next court date. Gallagher is scheduled to return to court on March 31.
