Coventry Opening Cooling Centers For Heat Advisory On Thursday, Friday

With index indices approaching 100, see where you can stay safe from the heat in Coventry.

A scorching heatwave hitting is hitting Rhode Island on Thursday and Friday, so Coventry will open cooling shelters to help resident stay safe.

Coventry has cooling centers open at any town police or fire station 24 hours a day. There will also be stations set up Thursday and Friday at the following locations:

  • Coventry Public Library at 1672 Flat River Road — open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday
  • Coventry Senior and Resource Center at 50 Wood St. — 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The heat advisory begins at 11 a.m. Thursday and will last until Friday night for Providence and Kent counties. The heat advisory is meant to put residents on alert about heat-related illnesses, like heat stroke and dehydration.

In general, communities like Providence, Warwick, North Smithfield and Coventry will see heat indices approaching 100 degrees. Slightly cooler temperatures will be felt in the rest of the state, with the Newport area expected to see values in the low 90s.
