Coventry Police Charge Alleged Burglar
Police have arrested a West Warwick man who's accused of breaking into a home on John Franklin Road.

COVENTRY, RI—An alert neighbor helped police recover jewelry stolen from a home on John Franklin Road, Lt. Matthew Blair said Friday. Brett Benitez, 26, West Warwick, allegedly broke into the house and grabbed prescription medicines and cash, as well as the jewelry. He stole items worth thousands, police said. But a neighbor spotted him, thought he looked "suspicious" and called police with a description of the man and his car. Coventry police broadcast the information, and on Thursday, Warwick police stopped Benitez in the Warwick Mall parking lot.
According to the report, Coventry police made the arrest after Benitez allegedly was found with the stolen jewelry. A search warrant was obtained for his West Warwick apartment, where police allege they found more evidence. He is due in Kent County Courthouse on Friday.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 401-826-1100.
