Coventry Police Find Dog Abandoned, Was Tied To Tree With Retractable Leash
Coventry Animal Control officials say the pitbull was likely tied to a tree in the woods since at least Monday evening or Tuesday morning.
COVENTRY, RI — Coventry police have asked for the public's help identifying the owner of a dog found abandoned Friday.
Around 10:42 a.m., Coventry Animal Control were called to Zeke's Bridge fishing area on Harkney Hill Road for a report of an abandoned dog. Animal control officials found a black male pitbull with a white chest.
According to animal control officials, the dog was tied to a tree about 2 feet into the woods. Someone used a retractable leash to tie the dog to the tree, but the dog freed itself, animal control officials said. Police said the dog had likely been tied to the tree since Monday or Tuesday.

Police said the dog had no collar tags or microchip. It is currently in the care of Coventry Animal Control.
